Canadian pop/electronic band Fake Shark set to release new album

Fake Shark - Faux Real

The Vancouver-located, musically chameleonic, and audaciously bodacious band Fake Shark has changed its sonic colors once again on its upcoming album, Faux Real, revealing itself on May 26th via Light Organ Records as an electronics-heavy, groovin’ rhythms-based, pop-funk record.

Faux Real was produced by Fake Shark and Steve Bays and includes guest performers like legendary rapper Kool Keith (lead vocals on “The Real Zombie”), Hannah Georgas, Tonye Aganaba, and Kate Kurdyak (of The Katherines).

Kevvy Mental, Louis Wu and Tony Dallas have molted from their original metal and grunge genre skins to evolve into a dance-pop band swimming in electronic, psychedelic, and spacey sounds.  Feel-good lead single “Heart 2 Heart”, a glossy, catchy synth-pop number, attests to this fact.

The band used to be named Fake Shark Real Zombie, but with one sharp chomp it changed to the sleeker moniker Fake Shark.  Heavy metal-influenced debut album Zebra Zebra came out in 2007, followed up by 2009’s Meeting People is Terrible.  That second record was infused with EDM and tropical house flourishes.  Liar arrived in 2013 and again showed off a different facet of the band, delving into freak-pop along the lines of the Flaming Lips.

Tuning in today, Faux Real is where Fake Shark is at: tuneful, fun, and adventurous.  To support the album, the band is setting course on a headlining Canadian tour that launches May 27th at Lucky Bar in Victoria, B.C. and continues through June.  Check out Fake Shark faux a real good time!
